Where to Grow Hosta

Hosta grow in full to partial shade. They can be planted in dappled shade. They will also grow in very low light areas that get only 1-2 hours of sun per day.

How to Plant Hosta

Plant bare root hosta directly in the ground in spring to early summer. Dig the planting hole 6-12" wide so the roots can be spread out when planted. Place the roots in the planting hole and spread the roots out. Back fill the planting area with soil to cover the roots. The crown of the roots is where all the roots come together at the top, this should be at the level of the soil. Add water to the planting area to help the soil settle and eliminate sir pockets. Keep soil evenly moist and check the soil moisture regularly by placing your finger just below the soil surface to see if water is needed.
