Planting Curcuma

Curcuma are exciting new bulbs in the ginger family. They are native to Thailand, Laos, China and other south Asian countries.

Where to Plant Curcuma

These tropical flower bulbs thrive in warm growing conditions. They grow best planted in part shade and once established will tolerate moist soils. In hardiness zones 8 and above Curcuma will be winter hardy and perennial returning for several years. Curcuma do go dormant in warm climates during the winter months, so don't be alarmed if they disappear for a few months.

How to Plant Curcuma

Plant curcuma in spring or early summer once the danger of frost has passed and the soil is warm. Lay curcuma on it's side and plant 2-3" below the soil surface. Cover the bulb with soil and water after the initially planting. Keep the soil dry until above ground sprouts are seen. Water as normal once growth starts, making sure the plants get at least 1" of water per week.
