Amaryllis kits come with a pot, amaryllis bulb and soil disc or bag of soil. For kits that have a soil disc water needs to be added to the disc to soften and expand the soil.

Add soil to the pot about ½ way up. Place the amaryllis bulb with the pointed end facing up. Add the remaining soil to surround the outside of the bulb. Leave the top 25% of the bulb uncovered with soil. Add water if soil is dry at the time of planting.

Amaryllis tolerate dry conditions but will benefit from regular watering especially as stems and buds form.

Amaryllis tolerate a range of light conditions and can be grown in a sunny location, but will also bloom in low light settings.

Expect 2-3 bloom cycles from the amaryllis bulb in your growing kit.

Once the amaryllis produces only leaves and no stems it is finished blooming for the season.

To get your amaryllis to bloom again:

After removing the wax from the bulb, cut off the leaves from bulb. Remove the bulb from the pot and soil it is planted in. Store the bulb in a paper bag in cool, dry, and dark location. Avoid storing the bulb in extreme heat or cold.

In late September to early October prepare to wake up the bulb for growth and blooms. Take the amaryllis out of the bag and plant the bulb in soil, add water and sun. Gradually expose the potted amaryllis to sun to help keep the growth balanced. Within 6-8 weeks new blooms will appear on your amaryllis.

Bought last January. Kit was easy. My Red Lion grew quickly and put on a magnificent floral display of bright red (when it was -32° outside and I long for flowers.) When “done” I put outside to throw out where it stayed a couple months, when much to my surprise it started growing back and after bringing indoors, it performed another glorious show of red for a second time tho I had done nothing. That speaks to the high quality of this product

If you've been afraid to try Amaryllis don't be. Honestly 17 years ago my son gave me a Red Lion gift box Amaryllis. I potted it up in well draining soil and treated it just like any bulb I'd want to naturalize only in a pot. It has bloomed with multipule flower stalks every year. Keep the nose of the bulb proud and tilted slightly. You don't want water to pool in the foilage at the bulb neck when you water. Like any other bulb, drier conditions when not actively growing. Don't let it sit in a saucer of water. I just let the foilage yellow before removing and water with the rest of the houseplants. I finally repotted, with my fingers crossed, a little over a year ago, and it didn't miss a beat.
One thing to note, if you naturalize your bulb expect blooms around Valentines day not Christmas. If you want Christmas blooms you have to time the dormancy.
So if Amaryllis have sounded to fussy, they're not. Pick one you like and give it shot. You won't regret trying - and one blooming in February is a really nice pick me up.

I thought the recipients would get one bloom and I hoped it would be pretty. They were able to enjoy for months! So far has bloomed twice since December (it's February) and with multiple large flowers. So beautiful! Note-They've followed the care instructions closely.
