Planted these as directed with trenching and compost this spring and they are doing very well so far. Maybe well enough for a harvest next year! I add a light coffee ground top dressing occasionally to help our more alkaline soil.
Purchased 3 bags for a total of 18 two year Jersey Giant root stock. Planted them about a week after receiving them into a prepared raised bed with drip irrigation on 4/20/24. I dusted the roots in a rooting hormone and 17 of 18 sprouted and appear to be doing really well. As of this post, most of the plants are over a foot tall and leafing out. I’m in Bentonville, AR (USDA zone 6b). Dug a trench about 6 inches deep and planted about 16 inches apart. Backfilled the trench with 3 inches of soil and continued backfilling as the asparagus sprouted. I covered the bed with about two inches of straw for moisture retention and weed control. Eventually all harvested asparagus will be given to a local program for folks experiencing food insecurity as part of our local County Master Gardener program. I’m really satisfied with this root stock and hoping they survive over the next two years…worth the wait for a perennial vegetable. I definitely recommend this product! Already ordered more for another bed.
5 of 6 crowns are growing so far and I have confidence the 6th will break ground soon.
It arrived looking good, got planted and now coming up. I ordered extra for my son, and his up up and looking good also. We've ordeded Before and will order again ad needed. Thanks...Happy!😁
I purchased 30 Jersey Giant Asparagus crowns during the spring of 2018. I had to store the crowns in a refrigerator for two weeks after delivery. Shortly after planting the crowns, and regular watering, every plant grew. After several weeks, they really look good for two year old plants.
